About
10th Planet
Boca Raton
10th Planet Boca Raton was built with a clear purpose: to create a training environment where people can develop real skills, build confidence, and grow both physically and mentally.
This isn’t just a place to work out. It’s a structured, intentional environment where every class is designed to help you improve, whether you’re stepping on the mats for the first time or continuing your journey in martial arts.
Here, training goes beyond technique. It’s about how you show up, how you learn, and how you carry that into your life outside the gym.
Real progress
Training built for real progress.
Based in Boca Raton, our classes are built for beginners and advanced students alike. The goal is not simply to teach techniques. It is to create a structured place where students can develop skills they can rely on, learn how to stay composed under pressure, and continue improving over time.
Explore our Adult Jiu-Jitsu program to see how that approach translates to training on the mats.
Our approach
Training philosophy
The approach at 10th Planet Boca Raton is different from traditional sport-focused gyms.
While many programs emphasize points and competition, the focus here is on real-world application and self-defense.
Students learn how to control situations, defend themselves, and stay composed under pressure, not just perform in a tournament setting.
At the same time, training goes beyond physical techniques.
Each class is built around awareness, intention, and personal growth. Sessions often include principles that apply outside the gym, reinforcing the idea that how you train reflects how you approach challenges in life.
This creates a more complete experience, one that develops both skill and mindset.
Our beginning
Our story
10th Planet Boca Raton was founded by a former UFC fighter who brings real-world experience and a unique perspective to coaching.
Before opening in Boca Raton in 2023, she successfully ran another 10th Planet location, gaining years of experience in coaching and gym development.
Today, she stands as the first woman in the 10th Planet system to independently own and operate a gym as head coach.
These experiences shape everything about the gym, from the way classes are taught to the standards that are maintained every day.

Our coaches
Heather Jo Clark Head Coach and Owner of 10th Planet Boca Raton
10th Planet Black Belt Heather Jo Clark is a long-time martial artist. She began studying Shotokan Karate at 8 years old but fell in love with fighting on the ice playing D1 hockey at Saint Cloud State University. After returning from Switzerland, where she moved to play professionally, she decided to get back into martial arts and joined an MMA gym in Los Angeles under head coach Roberto Piccinini of the famed Chute Boxe lineage. She received her 1st Degree 10th Planet Black Belt under Eddie Bravo.
Finding early success in the gym, Heather decided that she wanted to pursue fighting as a career and sought out the best coaches and training partners in the world.
This pursuit of greatness led her to Jackson/Winkeljohn’s in Albuquerque, NM, where she lived like a student, dedicating all of her energy to mastering her craft. After surviving hard training sessions in the gym with MMA standouts and pioneers like Holly Holm, Michelle Waterson, and Julie Kedzie, she took her first fight as a professional despite having no amateur experience. Aside from the wars she had with the women and men in training. That caliber of training was the best in the world.
Back in 2008, surviving the gym was all about learning to be tough until you learned to fight. Heather quickly learned to fight back and soon became a strawweight prospect to watch.
Despite losing her first pro fight, Heather went on to finish her next 5 in a row, including a highlight reel knockout just 10 seconds into her second pro bout. In constant search of the best coaches and training partners, Heather moved to Las Vegas, where she found her home at Xtreme Couture training under Robert Follis and alongside UFC Champion Miesha Tate. Having Robert as a coach was life-changing for Heather, and she aspires to continue his legacy, keeping his message and teachings alive in her new gym.
Heather was selected as one of the top 16 women in the world and asked to take part in the UFC’s first women’s flyweight tournament on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 20. After notching a hard-fought victory over Bec Rawlings in the season finale while fighting on a torn ACL, Heather went on to fight several more top contenders in the UFC’s Strawweight division while traveling around the world and fighting on the biggest cards of her era.
She also had fights in Bellator and Invicta FC before announcing her retirement in 2018.
After retiring from fighting, Heather shifted her focus to coaching Jiu-Jitsu. In March of 2023, Heather moved to South Florida to build her own world-class training center at 10th Planet Boca Raton.
Heather is beyond excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to share the life-changing philosophies of her coach, Robert Follis, and the out-of-this-world techniques of the 10th Planet System with the next generation of fighters in SoFlo.

Jason Kapnick Jiu-Jitsu Coach · 10th Planet Boca Raton · Renzo Gracie black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under George Sernack
Jason Kapnick is a devoted martial artist and second-generation Renzo Gracie black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under George Sernack and a 10th Planet Black Belt under Heather Jo Clark. For more than four years (2016-2020), Jason studied almost daily under John Danaher in the famed “blue basement” of Renzo Gracie Academy New York City.
When it comes to Jiu-Jitsu, Jason abides by the motto “think street, train sport, practice art.” While daily training mostly takes place in the arena of sportive grappling, it should never be forgotten that Jiu-Jitsu is rooted firmly in combat (“think street”), as well as being an aesthetically beautiful practice that fortifies the mind, body, and spirit (“practice art”).
Accordingly, Jason has spent extensive time and energy studying stand-up grappling arts such as Judo, Wrestling, and Sambo, as well as lifesaving combative techniques in both armed and unarmed situations.
Jason’s teaching style focuses on conceptual understanding and situational problem-solving rather than rote memorization of techniques. He constantly seeks to open his students’ minds and perspectives, so that they may progress rapidly and develop their own intuition when it comes to grappling. With over 20 years of experience in strength & conditioning, Jason’s knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and motor learning plays a major role in his teaching style.
